A Massive Collaboration

A more complex transaction, not only data migration, but also the delivery of a full payment API system, enabling partner bank capability with FirstRand. This involved full joint integration testing of corporate payment systems, adding a fair amount of complexity. The teams on both sides rose to the occasion and again achieved another successful delivery, and we wish all the team members who transitioned our best wishes for the future.

HSBC has officially exited South Africa, transferring its operations to FirstRand after a three-decade presence. The transfer includes the clients, assets, and liabilities of HSBC’s South African branch, which will continue to provide banking services to clients through FirstRand’s corporate and investment franchise, Rand Merchant Bank (RMB). The exit is part of HSBC’s strategic decision to focus on Asia and the Middle East, and it follows similar exits by other European banks from the region.

The Sun Always Shines in Bahrain

Another trip to finalise the transfer of the retail side of the bank in Bahrain. Another great local team, supported by a robust central management, ensured a smooth transaction.

HSBC has sold its retail banking operations in Bahrain to the Bank of Bahrain and Kuwait (BBK). This transfer includes approximately 76,000 customer accounts and is part of HSBC’s global restructuring strategy. The transaction was completed on the 30th of November 2025, and BBK will continue to offer services to HSBC customers, including retail loans, deposits, and credit cards.

Another Divestment Complete

Another transformation, and we have to say goodbye to our colleagues in Yerevan. A fantastic team that will be greatly missed, and we wish them all the very best for the future. Their commitment and dedication during a difficult transitional period for them was exemplary.

HSBC Armenia has been transferred to Ardshinbank CJSC, which completed the acquisition of 100% of HSBC Armenia’s shares. The bank was officially renamed Ardshininvestbank CJSC on November 29, 2024, after a successful integration process that took about ten months. Customers of HSBC Armenia will continue to receive their existing services while gaining access to new benefits under the new branding.

Farewell To Our Greek Colleagues

A bittersweet end to the current project, it was very challenging to meet the deadline, but all the preparation; planning, and rehearsals paid off. The Cutover Weekend was extremely smooth, and kudos goes to our Greek colleagues who work diligently right up to this point, and then transitioned to the new owners of HSBC’s Greek Business, Pancreta Bank. Some demise activities required and will be working closely with the tail team to ensure all regulatory requirements have been satisfied. Picture of the new sign in place at the Athens head office ready for Monday morning.

HSBC Europe

Working on a large transformation project with HSBC, helping to shape the banks future with some interesting Cyber Security considerations. Always up for a new challenge, providing the business with the right tools and visuals to get the job done. Part of the core central IT team, working with development and support teams worldwide.

ATM Switch Replacement

Staying with HSBC but moving back into Test Management, working with HSBC Bermuda on an ATM switch replacement project. Good to get back into software delivery working with development colleagues in India and Bermuda business teams. Also working on another transformation project, so keeping me busy!

Another one bites the dust!

My last day within the BRC today, project Eagle certainly had its challenges but a great team saw us pull through and get the job done even with the complications of CV19! The bulk of my time was spent working from home, so I start the day with an early morning walk; hence the picture. It was great to get down to Bristol and see everyone for the project closure and a few beers. I say it every time but there were some stars that were invaluable and made the project one to remember.

So the CV-19 pandemic hits

Looks like my travelling to Bristol will be put on hold for a while, as one of the first cases of Covid 19 has been reported by a parent at Burbage Primary School.
Maybe time to invest in a new chair for the home office 🙂

Now for something a bit different

Happy to accept an opportunity to work HSBC’s Business Review Center in Bristol, moving away from IT delivery to work closer with the Business on a large remediation programme.
Always good to work and learn in a new environment and the challenges that it brings. A bit of a longer commute though! 😉
